As a commercial photographer based in Kelowna, we get the opportunity to work with a lot of interesting businesses and organizations. No shoot is ever the same. What I love most about commercial photography is access – access to people, places, opportunities and experiences that would likely not be accessible via any other profession. This past year was a perfect example of that.
In addition to the various travel shoots that we did (including Croatia, Vietnam, Norway and the Olympic Peninsula), we also shot for all kinds of architects, developers, manufacturers, service providers, pool builders, hotels, resorts, etc. There is always a new subject to explore and new things to learn.
Speaking of hotels and resorts, we have recently opened up what you might call a new “division” of Shawn Talbot Photography. In recent years we have been shooting for a lot of international luxury hotels and resorts and wanted to create a portfolio of images that showcases this specific style of photography. Therefore, we are proud to present LuxuryHotelResortPhotography.com
In 2016 we were awarded the contract with Vancouver’s Holborn Group to do all of the photography for the brand new Arthur Erickson-designed Trump Hotel. Capturing this stunning building has been a photographer’s dream job due to the unique and incredible design combined with the impeccable attention to every detail. A huge “thank you” to all of the exceptionally hospitable staff for making this project a real pleasure to photograph.
In 2013 my friend Jan Vozenilek and I started Rubicon Aerial Cinema. After hundreds of aerial assignments all over the world, we decided to pursue our aerial work under our own brands. When we first started in the aerial business, two operators were a requirement – one to pilot the drone, the other to operate the camera. Now, with the advances in technology and automation, it has become easier to operate as an individual. With that said, I am proud to announce that I was recently awarded a blanket Special Flight Operations Certificate from Transport Canada and am fully insured for commercial operations across Canada. Some drone piloting highlights from 2016 include all of the aerials for national Kia and Buick car commercials, filming every hole at The Rise Golf Course to show golfers the route from the tee box to the green, aerials for dozens of property developments, survey work for Columbia Power in the Kooteneys and chasing helicopters in Revelstoke for Fly the Rockies.
On a similar note, I also fulfilled a lifelong dream of mine in 2016 to become a licensed pilot of light aircraft and have been enjoying cruising around over the Okanagan Valley with family and friends.
Right now we are excitedly gearing up for a jam-packed season. Last week we were back in Nanaimo shooting for Wildplay Element Parks which was an absolute blast! Dates are booking up quickly so if you are interested in possibly working with us this summer please connect and let’s chat about your project!
As always, huge thanks to The Team (Rebecca, Roxanne, Aaron and Jessica) for all of their assistance!
We look forward to hopefully working with you in 2017!
All the best,
Shawn and The Team
