I am a commercial photographer.
When I tell people that I am a commercial photographer, often the first question is “what is a commercial photographer?” In a nutshell, I shoot for businesses. This primarily consists of architecture, hotels, resorts, corporate portraits, business headshots, real estate, manufacturing, utilities…the list is long and varied. What I love most about commercial photography is the opportunity to meet and work with so many different people in so many different industries and to learn about how their businesses operate.
I was born and raised in Kelowna and it is my favorite place on earth. I travel a lot for work but for me, Kelowna is and always will be home. My Grandma often says to me, “everyone needs a place to hang their hat” and I can’t think of a better place to do that than in the Okanagan Valley. When I began my photography career 20 years ago there was not a ton of opportunity in my small town. Today, my little town of Kelowna is Canada’s 22nd largest city and is a bustling hub of entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity. While studying film and photography in the early part of my career, I lived in Vancouver for five years and worked as a commercial photographer shooting for advertising agencies. I enjoyed the work, but let’s just say I missed Kelowna.
With the recent explosion in drone technology, I have found that I am now doing a lot of aerial photography and aerial video. I am a licensed private pilot so I have a natural love for flying. Drone photography is the perfect marriage of my passion for both photography and flying. Just recently I purchased the DJI inspire 2 outfitted with the X7 camera. This drone captures stunning 24 megapixel aerial photographs and mind-blowing 6K aerial video. I am commercially insured for this type of work and fully licensed by Transport Canada.
I hope you enjoy a collection of some of my favorite images from a few of our commercial photography assignments that we have shot in the last few months.
